BETWEEN GIANT $HOULDERS

JOVEMDEU$ | THURSDAY, 25AUG22 | BERLIN, GERMANY

Debut Marcioz album with 10 tracks composed between 2020-2022. Doing a deep dive into a sonic concept built and developed based on thoughts, on principles, on readings and reality. The album was composed in it's majority in Curitiba and finalized in Berlin. Fully composed, performed, mixed and mastered by Marcio with special participation of Rompiste Mis Flores and Ivana Bandalo.

To forcefully recontextualize experimental and contemporary music // to negate the sonic description of innovation created by global north in the 21st century // to negate the fictional history of development in experimental music // to reconsider counterpoint as a colonial fragment // to reconsider tonal harmony as a colonial fragment // to reconsider the clavichord and baroque music as a colonial fragment // to consider the charango as a virtual extended technique instrument // to rethink the clavichord within a new possiblity for counterpoint // to acknologde the “herofication” of european musical landmarks as a form of ideology // to propose and practice an open multiple form view for new music // to negate a local practice and dialogue as a universal speech // to practice and recenter global south as the matter of the conversation // to ignore their idols // to profit from the gringo’s system // to buy my grandma a house // pela paz do corpo mestiço pardo brasileiro // to ocupy their spaces // pela malandragem // “europe is indefensible” // ich will profit aus ihre schulde // “demorou, eu quero é mais, eu quero até sua alma” // pelo lixo ocidental // eu nasci pobre mas nao nasci otario // good luck getting me out of your deutsche land

IN HONOUR: $HOTTING, ROBBING AND $TEALING |

RADICAL SOUNDS LATIN AMERICA FESTIVAL

ARKAODA, RADICAL SOUNDS LATIN AMERICA BERLIN | SUNDAY, 19NOV23 | BERLIN, GER

Premiere of the solo performance "In Honour: $hotting, Robbing and $tealing" for Electronics, Repique, Voice, Transversal Flute at the opening of the 5th edition of the festival. The 40 minute piece explores the elemental impact of power dynamics within the mist of both community as well as within neo liberal hyperindividual belief:  Arguing into contradiction, cynicism, strategy, posture, archetypes of power, jealousy, thru scenery in a sonically theatrical format. It is structured around three distinct laws, each delineating a movement narrated by a ghost voice.

The performance unfolds with Marcioz assuming a prayer position amidst the crowd, later crawling towards the stage with jewellery coursing through the body and feet. The laws guiding the narrative are as follows:
LAW I: Velvet Glove for the Iron Hand

LAW II: Attention $upreme

LAW III: Do Not Press a De$perate Foe

INVOCATION OF THE $WIMMING BODY  | BERLIN N—GB 2023

BERLIN MUSIC COMISSION | NOV23 — DEC23 | BERLIN, GER
Next-Generation Berlin is a technologically-driven research program fostering marginalised voices, often left unheard in music. It
aims to invite visibility and learning, understand adversities and dissect processes, and create conditions necessary for innovation and impact within music. In the program, one artist is paired up with a mentor which assist the artist over the course of two months in development and research of a piece, or project, or idea. Marcioz was mentored by New York composer and multimedia artist, Christina Whealer in development of "INVOCATION OF THE $WIMMING BODY" for 4 speakers.

The piece is a multimedia work exploring technology and spirituality, inspired by the relationship of trauma, wound and reconnection of Afrodiasporic communities with the Atlantic Sea. The piece unfolds collaboratively with the audience, employing a specially crafted algorithm for sound and one for a visual generative algorithm of a wave which is projected into the audience. As the performer engages with the algorithm, a call-and-response dynamic emerges, reflecting the spiritual essence of group prayer through sound, music thru crafted poems. The speakers are set up in a way that shapes a sonic river, letting both the audience and performer surround within the room. This setup alms to create a fluid relationship between the room performer and the audience, excluding a difference between performer, sound, visual, room and speakers.

DE/COLONIAL WRITING$

JOVEMDEU$ | THURSDAY,16JUL20  | CURITIBA, BRASIL

3 track EP released on Marcioz label, jovemdeu$. DE/COLONIAL WRITING$ takes influences from samba, flamenco, trap and industrial music to develop a new possibility for the brazilian music pallete. Growing up in Curitiba, Marcioz was immersed in samba carnival bands since a kid, playing repinique, surdo and other typical instruments present in afrobrazilian music. That same origin makes key difference to define DE/COLONIAL WRITING$ as a sound wishing to imagine electronic music from the colonial period in Brazil. The project doesn't try to solve any of the worlds issues, simply accepting its uncapabilities, it rather wants to cause thought, imagination and creativity from the listener.
Coverart from Osório Belêm.

MULATO TRAGIDY

JOVEMDEU$ IN PARTNERSHIP WITH NURTURED IDEAS | THURSDAY, 02AUG19 | DIGITAL - NEW YORK, USA

Composed between 2018 - 2019, MULATO TRAGIDY is directly inspired by the works of Franz Fanon, more specifically "Black Skins, White Masks" and Lilly Swarts's "O Espetáculo das Raças". Both books had a significant impact during the compositional process, as they offered reasoning, wakening and understanding behind a 2 decade long hurting of internalized hatred and scars of direct racism. The EP sonically investigates the narrow spaces between branquitude and negritude in Brasil, self diagnosing the position of the Pardo, Mulato and Mestiço body in the project plan of populational whitening that occurred in Brasil since the XXth century. The EP takes as departure the term "tragic mulatto" which is present in American literature and oral tradition, as a way to self diagnose and investigate the confusion and gaslighting process that was forced upon the black and pardo population in Brasil as form of colonial colorist strategy. Special thanks to Helena Taborda Monahan, Stéfanos Pinkuss, Thiago Mendes.

UFERSTUDIOS | UNIVERSITÄT DER KÜNSTLER | 08JAN24 — 12JAN24 | BERLIN, GER

5 Day workshop given alongside multimedia artist Luiza Lüz during the Kollisionen week program from Universität der Künstler for students and visiting students. The workshop deals with recovering forggoten knowledges through sonic art, storytelling and vocal narratives. Engaging with the transformative power of listening, storytelling, vocal work, and oral traditions as essential tools to recover narratives of interdependence between humans and more-than-humans. Building upon the intersection of the Planetary crisis, decolonial studies, and sonic art, this program aims to challenge dominant perspectives by prioritizing non-academic ways of learning and embracing postnatural approaches to ecology. Participants will be invited to get in touch with forgotten knowledge(s), both collectively and individually, and express the power of this memory in the present through sound, vibration, and storytelling.
